Florida Sales Tax Holiday 2025 – Because for families raising neurodivergent children, back-to-school shopping isn’t just about supplies. It’s about emotional safety, regulation, and routine.
When Shopping Isn’t So Simple
Back-to-school season is supposed to feel exciting, right?
But for many families we support at Super Kids, August brings more than new backpacks, it brings challenges.
The stores are crowded. The lights are bright. The sounds are loud.
And every decision (from socks to scissors) can feel like a trigger.
It’s not just about what to buy.
It’s how to buy it without overwhelm or burnout for anyone in the family.
That’s why we love any tool that helps take the pressure off -and this year, Florida’s 2025 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday might be just the break families need.
🗓️ What Is the Sales Tax Holiday?
From August 1 to August 31, 2025, Florida is waiving sales tax on hundreds of school-related items. That means parents can save money on essentials, without rushing or trying to cram it all into one weekend.
Even better? Online purchases qualify too, as long as they’re made during the tax-free period, even if the item ships later.
What Can You Buy Tax-Free?
Here’s a quick look at what’s covered:
- School supplies like folders, pencils, glue, scissors
- Clothing, shoes, and accessories under $100
- Learning aids and puzzles under $30
- Personal computers and accessories up to $1,500
From noise-canceling headphones to sensory-friendly lunchboxes, a lot of essentials qualify; just be sure to check the price limits.

5 Tips for Sensory-Friendly Shopping Success
Shopping with a neurodivergent child means thinking beyond the cart. Here are a few things we’ve seen work beautifully for families:
1. Turn the List Into a Visual Tool
Involve your child by creating a checklist with images. Let them help pick out items. This supports executive functioning and reduces resistance later on.
2. Choose Calm Shopping Times
Mornings or weekday evenings are often quieter. Fewer crowds = fewer stressors.
3. Bring the Regulation Kit
Pack a small sensory survival bag:
- Headphones
- Chewelry or fidgets
- Calming snacks
- A small comfort item
4. Let Them Take the Lead
Choice gives kids control. Let them choose between two backpacks or pick out their favorite snack container, it builds buy-in.
5. Stretch It Out
You don’t have to do it all in one day. Spread out your shopping and give your child time to adjust.
